Teletherapy & Home-based Sessions
Teletherapy refers to providing psychotherapy services remotely using telecommunications technologies, such as video conferencing or telephone. One of the benefits of teletherapy is that the client and clinician can engage in services without being in the same physical location. This can be helpful in ensuring continuity of care if the client or clinician moves to a different location, takes an extended vacation, or is otherwise unable to continue to meet in person. It is also more convenient and takes less time. Teletherapy, however, requires technical competence on both our parts to be helpful. I currently use a HIPAA compliant platform, doxy.me, which is very easy to access if you have a computer or smartphone!
Should you elect teletherapy as your primary choice, from time to time, we may schedule in-person sessions to “check-in” with one another. I will let you know if I decide that teletherapy is no longer the most appropriate form of treatment for you. We will discuss options of engaging in in-person counseling or referrals to another professional in your location who can provide appropriate services.
Home-based Sessions:
From time-to-time I am available to schedule an in-home appointment (depending on your location relative to my office) if we both feel this might be beneficial to treatment. This tends to be more appropriate for helping children and their families function in their home. Or, if someone is unable to utilize teletherapy and cannot make it to session. Home-based visits must be agreed on by the clinician and patient. These sessions typically last longer, about 75-90 minutes.
Fees:
The same fee rates will apply for teletherapy as apply for in-person psychotherapy. Blue Cross Blue Shield is currently covering teletherapy appointments.
Additional fees apply for Home-based sessions
